His first reaction was to attack Capriles at any cost. IMHO he was told to take a different approach to be more as they say lulafied. I also believe that if it had been up to Chavez he would have continued to hide anything related to his health to any extent possible. Right now he is playing the sympathy card big time. Its the only thing that can work for him in the wake of the tsunami that was the primaries and also it would be very obvious something is wrong once he is absent for a few weeks again for surgery.

Chavistas and public employees are afraid to say anything but the party line to interviewers since they don’t know who the encuestadoras really represent, and fear that their answers may be used against them in retaliation. I heard Yepez Gil of Datanalisis scoff at the possibility of Chavez winning his first presidency just 2 months before the election. The other problem is that most encuestadoras are open to the highest bidder (not DATOS, however), and we all know who has the most money to throw around!!!
