Don’t be so silly as to say that Capriles met with Pinochet’s private secretary, because it was not a one on one meeting and, after all, even your dear idol Fidel met not with the Secretary, but with the fascist Dictator himself, in what was a fascist to fascist, Dictator to Dictator meeting. After all, the two really have a lot in common, no? Maybe you can ask Fidel why he met with Pinochet before accusing those that went to Chile as traitors. Pity, you can ask him, but he will likely not be able to talk back to you.
And you really think that the US is going to stop meeting with distinguished Venezuelans like Pedro Mario Burelli just to have relations with a questionable Government like yours? Burelli got to where he is on his own and if you are going to try to insult him, you better find a word that exists, because I checked in the RAE and its other sources and personajillo simply does not exist, carajillo. And I am sure Mr. Burelli would be much better accomplished than you in any position, from bus driver, to Foreign Minister to President. After all, you are what you are because you rode on Chavez’ back, always agreeing to anything he told you to do.

And anytime you want to be tough, you screw up relations with another country, be it Spain, Colombia or the USA. Then you have to spend your time trying to make up. What is clear is that you learned nothing in the only job you ever had for a reasonable period of time, your six years as Foreign Minister.
And please look up oligarchy in the dictionary, maybe it will help you realize that Chavismo represents the new oligarchy.
And you really have to spend your time on more productive things Nico. You have lots, lots of problems. Whoever told you Sicad will fix the foreign exchange problems has no clue. And Sicad started as screwed up and corrupt as your Government. If not, ask Merentes how this ¨multicriteria¨pseudo-criteria was implemented or why no legitimate medical equipment company got one dollar. And stop saying inflation is going to go down and there will be growth the second half of the year. Even if your foreign experts (French or American) tell you otherwise , scarcity has yet to budge, and as long as it is near 20%, inflation in May was no mirage and will stay around that level. And if you don’t grant price increases, watch those numbers go even higher.
So Nico, you just better shut up, like King Juan Carlos famously told your boss. Stop improvising, you are not good at it. If something bothers you, count to one hundred, hold your breath, before saying anything. Then call Cuba, even your old boss used to do that and he was better at improvising. Understand you have a short fuse and you are illegitimate. Temper tantrums not work well for Presidents. And if you are going to get mad every time someone meets with someone you don’t like, just keep it to yourself and use it when its needed. Paranoia is not the best of traits. Ask Diosdado, he has been meeting with lots of your friends and knows who you meet with, but he says little.
And please stop using the word respect. This is something you earn, not a given. So, get to work, defuse the demons around you first, really attack corruption and maybe, just maybe, you will start earning some respect.

I hate dictatorships and military governments either from left or right. There are no reasons at all to have armed people ruling over unarmed civilians. Unless, maybe we are in a war and some strong hands are absolutely required
.
However I can tell you you that:
1. In 1982-83 I went to Santiago many times for a temporary job. I remember at least 1 unemployed in every family group, graduated young people in the 20’s working as servers at restaurants, or taxi drivers, many expatriates in Venezuela, Canada, Australia, etc… really really bad. Unemployment at 20-25%.
2. I went back in 1990, months after Pinochet step down. Many BMW’s. new LANChile top notch aircrafts, one of the most compelling telephone network, skilled technical people and managers, nice hotels, unemployment at 10%, high salaries, private pension funds pouring money to support a growing local stock market, Codelco, fruit and wine record exports, etc etc etc.
So..after 15 years with this unethical and unacceptable Pinochet right wing dictatorship Chile went from being the Cinderella country to the most modern south-american economy, social organization and business model (still it is..)
Tell me…what happened with the lefty Castro dictatorship?? Can anybody show any improvement in Cuba ???? …60 years today and same shirrttttt…sorry..maybe even worse.,..
BTW… what about Venezuela ?? Rojo rojito regime is near to become as older as the full Pinochet regime.. and as any other known lefty military regime it is simply destroying the country.

I think you should look harder, or reinterpret what you’re looking at.
One of the greatest shocks to US-Americans when first visiting South American (and many other) countries is the presence of military on the streets, even under the guise of domestic security. It’s a disgusting, repulsive thing to most of us. They don’t belong there.
And I wonder how so many blind Canadian tourists to Cuba would feel upon seeing a similar military presence in Quebec as they went to pick up their croissants in the morning.
Driving from Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata in the mid-80s, my buddy and I were stopped on the main “highway” by a patrol. The DR at the time was considered a 100% safe tourist bet as far as the government goes (it was), the country was just beginning its march to “democratic economic success” as determined by most measures, and yet here were guys in green with machine guns asking us to pay a “multa” to cross.
We didn’t speak a word of Spanish, they realized we weren’t bullshitting and let us on our way, and only later did we learn what they WANTED!
Can you please tell me the last time this happened to someone driving from Florida to New York? Calgary to Toronto? Paris to Nice?
Sorry, my friend. You can not claim that all nations are run by their military. Doing so minimizes the crimes of dictatorial regimes, and makes them equal to true democracies.

Army, Navy and pals are to protect the country in a war, or better, to avoid a war with another country.
Civilian armed forces must be used only for specific law enforcement activities.
Guns are to protect citizens, not to bully against them
We can easily see that the number of officially armed people in the streets is directly proportional to the lack of development in the country. Taking away some special situations like Colombia and Mexico, you see just a few in Chile, Panama, Uruguay or Brasil, many more in Argentina or Peru, and one per corner in Venezuela, Bolivia or Nicaragua.
Developed countries like Canada, Norway, Japan, etc you must wait for patriotic holiday celebration to see marines or armed guards in the streets.

It is the little guy who gets the biggest punishment.
One Venezuelan who stole Billions of the peoples dollars over a period of 14 years had a grand State funeral, statues everywhere, private jets for he and his family, greetings from leaders around the World, a special resting place in a military museum, endless places named after him, and a whole lot more. No prison time but he smells sulfur all the time.
Compare that to the thousands of innocents that are killed every year because the One above did not care about them.

Good find, the Franco with Fidel photo. Franco and Castro’s father were both Gallegos. In a book I read about Castro, which pointed out that the Fidel-Franco relationship was not as frosty as one would assume, Franco is reported to have said, “Give the Yankees hell, Fidel.!”

Having had the pleasure of speaking to Mr. Burelli a number of times, and hearing him speak about Venezuela many times, I can attest the man definitely can run circles around anyone in the current regime, on any subject, with any handicap you care to invent.
